Rotary Scholarships and Sponsored Students
The Rotary Foundation offers scholarships for college graduates and professionals to study peace and conflict resolution. Rotary peace fellowships are available to candidates who want to participate in a master's degree or certificate program at one of our six partner universities.
Naomi Kawamoto 2023-24
Our sponsored student and Rotary Scholar for 2023-24, Naomi Kawamoto, studied at the London School of Economics (LSE). During her year in London, Naomi attended several meetings and functions, supporting the wider club and district activities, including assisting at the annual North London Rotary Disability Games.
Naomi shared insights with club members about her family in Japan and her academic journey. She also provided a summary of her dissertation, which she is preparing as part of her master's degree course at LSE, sponsored by the Rotary Scholarship Program.
Club President Andrew Grady (2023-24) presented Naomi with a club pennant to pass on to her sponsoring club in Japan. Naomi had previously gifted us a banner from her home club. Additionally, Andrew gave her a 'Rotary End Polio Bear' as a memento.
On her final visit in August, before returning home, the new Club President for 2024-25, Sam Covill, thanked Naomi with a box of chocolates for her contributions to the club during her year in the UK.
Shingo Sugama 2022-23
At our club meeting on 25th July 2023 our club President Andrew Grady was delighted to welcome our very first Japanese Rotary Scholar Shingo Sugama who gave an interesting speech to our club (as his sponsors) - talking about his career path, his home country, his life here in the UK, and his future plans. We were delighted to learn about life from his perspective! As a relatively new club, 2022-23 was our first ever year of hosting an International Rotary Scholar, being an interesting and enjoyable experience for the club, and we look forward to sponsoring more students from other countries in future years!
